Terms of reference
· Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is also known as hyperbaric oxygen treatment and/or HBOT and therefore, all terms are used interchangeably.
· HBOT is conducted in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber (however the term chamber may also be used). The chamber that OxyTreat use is a soft shell chamber.
· The terms ‘we,’ ‘us,’ ‘staff’ and OxyTreat all refer to OxyTreat.
· The term ‘you’ refers to you as a consumer/user of our service.
· A ‘session’ refers to the agreed complete time in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber. The complete time will include: entering the chamber, lying down, pressuring the chamber to 1.5ATA, breathing in concentrated oxygen through a mask, de-pressuring the chamber and exiting the chamber. Prior to a first ever session, you must complete a Client Intake Form and disclose any health/medical conditions. Should you continue with a session, you will need to be able to enter and exit the chamber without assistance and you will be shown by staff how to clear your ears during a session.
· Note: you must be able to enter and exit the chamber without any support or assistance and no one can accompany you in the chamber.
Scope of service
· OxyTreat offers a session or sessions of HBOT. You are only able to engage in one session per day. It is recommended that the maximum number of sessions in a seven day window is five and that after five consecutive sessions, there is a minimum break of two days until the next session.
· Prior to a first session, you will be expected to complete a Client Intake Form (see form). It is your responsibility to update us should there be any changes to your health and wellbeing.
· OxyTreat are not medically trained and are not medical practitioners.
OxyTreat does not offer medical advice and cannot prescribe or make inferences regarding the efficacy of HBOT for any particular purpose or condition.
· In accordance with EU and UK law, OxyTreat does not recommend, suggest or imply that HBOT is used as a replacement for conventional medicine. Furthermore, HBOT does not ‘treat’ ‘prevent’ or ‘cure’ disease, disorder or injury. Any references, studies or articles (including our HBOT and me page on our website) do not imply that similar results will occur for others if they have HBOT.
· Although the scientific literature around HBOT continues to increase, at this point in time (May 2024), there remains no randomised control trials (RCT’s) about HBOT. RCT’s are usually considered the highest standard of scientific research.
· As everyone who engages in HBOT may have varying outcomes, OxyTreat cannot guarantee the outcome of session(s) of HBOT. However, it is generally acknowledged that a single session of HBOT is unlikely to be sufficient to aid recovery and wellbeing.
· OxyTreat does recommend that you discuss your wish to engage in a session with your medical practitioner. In some cases, OxyTreat may require written evidence from your medical practitioner/GP stating they are happy for you to engage in a session prior to a session.
· OxyTreat reserves the right to deny a session of HBOT.
User responsibilities
· Please note, our chamber is a single person, lying down, soft shell chamber. You must be able to enter and exit the chamber without any support or assistance.
· You must provide information about your health and disclose any medical conditions prior to a session.
· You must be able to wear an oxygen mask whilst in the chamber. A mask will be provided to you on your first treatment. For subsequent sessions, you can continue to use that mask. It is your responsibility to ensure the mask is bought to any session. Should you forget your mask, you will be charged for a new mask.
· Prior to your first session, you will be shown techniques of how to clear your ears by staff. It is your responsibility to use these techniques when the chamber is pressurising and de-pressuring.
· Smoking, sharps and/or flammable items are prohibited when you are in the chamber.
· Food (including sweets/mints etc) are prohibited when you are in the chamber.
· Any phones or ipads/tablets taken in the chamber are at your own risk. OxyTreat does not take any responsibility for any damage that may occur to such items whilst using them in the chamber.
· Staff will operate pressuring and de-pressuring the chamber. Whilst you are in the chamber, do NOT change or touch the pressure valves.
· If you wish to leave the chamber before the session time is up, you will have to wait until the chamber operative depressurises the chamber before you can leave the chamber.
· Please ensure timely attendance to a session. If you do not turn up on time for a session, your session will continue to end at the time that was initially scheduled.
· We recommend wearing comfortable clothing for a session.
· The decision to partake in a session/sessions of HBOT is solely your responsibility. Therefore, OxyTreat do not assume any liability for your use of HBOT. We recommend that you speak to a medical practitioner about your decision to use HBOT should you have any queries or concerns.
Risks and safety considerations
· If you experience difficulties with claustrophobia, you should inform us and consider/decide whether you are able to engage in a session given that the chamber is an enclosed space.
· Generally, HBOT is considered to be safe, but like anything, can carry some risk. These can include middle ear injuries, sinus discomfort, temporary vision changes and in very rare cases, oxygen toxicity.
· If during a treatment you experience any ear pain, you should let staff know immediately.
· It is imperative that you disclose any health/medical difficulties prior to engaging in sessions.
· Again, we recommend that you speak to a medical practitioner about your decision to use HBOT.
· High levels of oxygen can pose a fire risk which is why flammable objects should NOT be bought into sessions or used in the chamber.
Payment terms
· A session can be bought as a single session or can be part of a package (ie you pay for multiple sessions in one go).
· A session or a package of sessions of HBOT are only purchasable in accordance with packages advertised on our website, social media, marketing or as advertised at our clinic.
· All sessions will require pre booking
· Payment will be required prior to the session taking place. For package sessions, payment will be required for the entire package in full prior to the second session taking place.
Cancellation and refund policy
· Sessions can only be refunded if they are cancelled by you 24 hours before the session. If you are unable to inform us more than 24 hours prior, we cannot guarantee a full refund. Any cancellations for a session made with more than 24 hours notice will not attract any cancellation fees.
· If you have bought a package of sessions and do not cancel a session appointment within the package 24 hours before the prearranged session, then this session will be taken out of your allocated amount of sessions.
· Any failure to attend with notice will be charged at the full rate/ a session will be taken out of your allocated amount of sessions within a package,
· Completing a session no longer entitles you to a refund for the price of that individual session or any prior completed sessions. If you feel that your session was not adequate, please inform a member of staff.
· OxyTreat will endeavour to give you as much advance notice as possible of any need to cancel or reschedule a future appointment. Any appointments that need to be rescheduled by OxyTreat will not incur a cost to you – a session appointment can be applied to the next appointment should you have a package, or if it is a single session, the session can be refunded or applied to the next rescheduled appointment.
· Please note, in exceptional circumstances we may need to delay or cancel sessions and these circumstances may be outside of our reasonable control. Such circumstances include but are not limited to situations where there may be a power cut, a natural disaster or other situations outside of our control. In such circumstances, we will endeavour to inform you as soon is reasonably possible.
Privacy policy
· OxyTreat will gather personal and clinical information about you prior to a session. Any information you provide will be stored and processed in accordance with applicable data protection laws including the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.
